Strata Supports Governor Roy Cooper Signing of HB589

Strata Solar Applauds Gov Cooper Signing HB589

We believe the Governor made the right decision for the North Carolina economy, the clean energy industry, and electricity customers. Strata Solar also stands with our clean energy colleagues in the wind industry.

We were disappointed in last-minute actions inserting a harmful and unnecessary wind energy provision into the bill and going forward we will support efforts to ensure wind energy has a fair chance to thrive in this state.

House Bill 589 is the result of over 9 months of negotiations, and Strata has been involved every step of the way. There was significant give and take by all parties and overall we believe this law represents a fair compromise among a large and diverse stakeholder group. More importantly, this new law cements North Carolina's position as a national leader in solar power. It will ensure a robust market for solar energy over several years, drive billions of dollars of investment into the state, support thousands of jobs, and save electric customers money.

Strata Solar also applauds Rep. John Szoka, Rep. Dean Arp, and House Speaker Tim Moore for their support. Rep. Szoka's leadership in facilitating stakeholder discussions and reaching a fair compromise stands as a model for how complex policy should be done.
